About Geek Tours

Montreal Geek Tours’ goal is to organize truly nerdy visits behind the scenes at Montreal’s most intriguing institutions and attractions.

My name is Marie-Lynn Richard, I am a code monkey (and a single mom) in Montreal. I have been working on the Web for almost 15 years but concentrating my efforts on Wordpress development for the past year.

When I was 18 years old (in 1989) I was the youngest tour guide ever hired by Exploratours. I did study in tourism but quickly shifted my focus to computers, Fidonet and eventually the Internet and never pursued a full-time career in the travel after that.

However, for years I have been wondering if people would be interested in truly geeky travel. When I travel to Las Vegas, I am not really interested by the casinos but I really want to know what kind of computer runs the Freemont Street Experience and how many people it takes to continuously change all those light bulbs. When I visit New York, I couldn’t care less about the shopping but I am curious how the Rockefeller Plaza, a series of buildings where 30,000 people work, is maintained.

This website is meant to allow me to gauge the interest in such activities and organize outings locally, in Montreal.

So please answer the poll or take the time to suggest a place you would like to visit. I will look into them and if I am not flat out refused (for security reasons) I will post back and get everyone’s feedback.

Thanks!

Marie-Lynn
